SAVE ENERGY AT HOME

SAVE ENERGY IN THE OFFICE

SAVE ENERGY VIA TRANSPORT

One of the biggest and easiest ways to cut your emissions, is to stop flying. See this chart showing the massive emissions produced by a variety of flights around the world. We will never meet our carbon reduction targets if we keep flying. Calculate the emissions for specific destinations HERE.

One of the next biggest reductions you can make is by insulating your home better, to reduce the amount of energy needed to heat your house. 31% of all the energy we consume is used in our homes of which 82% is used for space heating

If you were wondering which of your electrical appliances used most electricity, look at this chart for more information. And this report on the energy use of new flat screen TVs.

Try and use your car a lot less, take public transport when you can, walk or cycle shorter distances.

REMEMBER : If everybody does their bit, we REALLY CAN make a difference

WHY COMPOST & RECYCLE?

1.) Generally because it takes less energy to recycle something than it does to manufacture a new one from raw materials. This saves finite resources of raw materials, like oil to make plastic but it also reduces the carbon dioxide emissions generated during the manufacturing process.

2.) It reduces the size of the holes we need to dig to dump our rubbish in. Otherwise, we will all soon be living on a landfill site. And councils estimate they only have 9 years of landfill facilities left. THEN WHAT!!!

3.) It reduces the amount of rotting rubbish in landfill sites, which presently churn out huge amounts of methane and toxic fumes, adding to Global Warming, as well as releasing poisonous chemicals into our streams and rivers.
